Abstract

This work is an overview and analysis of reported cases of some selected sexually transmitted infections (STIs), a case study of Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja (2005 – 2014). The selected STIs are gonorrhea, syphilis, urethritis and HIV. The symptoms, causes, prevention and control measures of STIs were generally discussed. A test of incidence of occurrence of STIs in respect to gender was carried out using Chi – square test statistic. From the result of the analysis, ?2cal = 8.831 > ?2tab = 7.819. We thus reject the hypothesis under consideration (H0) and conclude that the incidence of occurrence of sexually transmitted diseases (STIs) is dependent on the of gender of individuals. That is the reported cases of the incidence of occurrence of the diseases depend on gender.
